I wrote about a guy a couple of months back that seemed to be doing a killing with his short stories on the Amazon Kindle. He’s UK based, and had like 50 stories out already in ebook format – and was selling good numbers of them. He had some twisted titles, like “Dorking my Daughter’ and stuff like that, and I couldn’t imagine writing something like that – or that people would want to read it, but obviously people DO.
So, I am going to jump into the sick and twisted space and see what can be done with some short stories.
See, the thing is – Kindle ebook buyers are buying books of all length. They don’t feel short-changed when they buy a 20-40 page story for $.99 USD. And they shouldn’t either – that’s a good price for a short work like that. The problem is that authors can’t really get themselves over the idea that they need to create tome length stories. There is no point anymore. You’re not writing for an editor, you’re writing for people that will read your book in 30 minutes and either feel good about it, or not.
You’re not writing the next worldwide best seller – in most cases – as you create a 20 page story.
You’re just filling a need.
If nobody writes those sick and short stories for 99 cents – nobody can buy them. This guy showed me that the need exists – or he wouldn’t be selling so damn many of them.
Like I said, I’m going to jump into the space and see what I can do with a couple-few sick and short stories in the erotica & fetish area. I haven’t decided what in the world the stories will be about – but, I’m going to make them sick and short.
Anybody in that space now and want to give me some pointers?
