The Bible is a Horrorshow

by MikeFook on December 29, 2008

I’m quite at odds with a lot of what the bible says.

The Christian bible is filled with sick stuff… here’s a small sample. If you are one of the ‘on the fence Christians’ that don’t really follow anything to the letter you should read these. If you call yourself a Christian – justify these “God inspired” words that make no rational sense and could not really be coming from a god that is all good and just. Could they? It’s your bible – YOU justify it. Leave me out of this craziness though!

Cut the babies to pieces! Huh?

Isaiah 13:13-16

13Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the Lord of hosts on the day of his fierce anger. 14Like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with no one to gather them, all will turn to their own people, and all will flee to their own lands. 15Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. 16Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered, Sex between a male and male is punishable by DEATH! Wow, thanks for making homosexuality an option here god… When a boy grows up without a father and a strong mother prevails he often will turn to homosexuality. Is it natural? The environment helped it along… thanks for the possibility you jackass.

Lev 20:13

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them. Working some extra hours on Sunday to gain a little cash? Die then…

Ex 35:2

2 For six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy sabbath of solemn rest to the Lord; whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. Dogs, lizards, cats and sheep – anything that breathes, dies….

Deut 20:10-18

10 When you draw near to a town to fight against it, offer it terms of peace. 11If it accepts your terms of peace and surrenders to you, then all the people in it shall serve you in forced labour. 12If it does not submit to you peacefully, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it; and when the Lord your God gives it into your hand, you shall put all its males to the sword. 14You may, however, take as your booty the women, the children, livestock, and everything else in the town, all its spoil. You may enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the Lord your God has given you. 15Thus you shall treat all the towns that are very far from you, which are not towns of the nations here. 16But as for the towns of these peoples that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, you must not let anything that breathes remain alive. 17You shall annihilate them the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites just as the Lord your God has commanded, 18so that they may not teach you to do all the abhorrent things that they do for their gods, and you thus sin against the Lord your God. Have a son or daughter that just won’t LISTEN? Kill them, God says you can…

Deut 21:18-21Rebellious Children

Rebellious Children 18 If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and mother, who does not heed them when they discipline him, 19then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at the gate of that place. 20They shall say to the elders of his town, This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death. So you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel will hear, and be afraid. Refuse to father children to your brother’s wife when he’s incapable? Die then!

Gen 38:8-10 8Then Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother’s wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her; raise up offspring for your brother.’ 9But since Onan knew that the offspring would not be his, he spilled his semen on the ground whenever he went in to his brother’s wife, so that he would not give offspring to his brother. 10What he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death also. If your wife helps you in a fight by grabbing the other guys nads – off with her hand, “show no pity!” Deut 25:11-12 Various Commands 11 If men get into a fight with one another, and the wife of one intervenes to rescue her husband from the grip of his opponent by reaching out and seizing his genitals, 12you shall cut off her hand; show no pity. As a girl if you have a weak hymen – that tore when you were a child riding a horse, running away from a dog, or whatever it was… and try to pass yourself off as a virgin… DIE THEN!

Deut 22:13-21 Laws concerning Sexual Relations 13 Suppose a man marries a woman, but after going in to her, he dislikes her 14and makes up charges against her, slandering her by saying, I married this woman; but when I lay with her, I did not find evidence of her virginity.’ 15The father of the young woman and her mother shall then submit the evidence of the young woman’s virginity to the elders of the city at the gate. 16The father of the young woman shall say to the elders: I gave my daughter in marriage to this man but he dislikes her; 17now he has made up charges against her, saying, “I did not find evidence of your daughter’s virginity.’ But here is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.’ Then they shall spread out the cloth before the elders of the town. 18The elders of that town shall take the man and punish him; 19they shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver (which they shall give to the young woman’s father) because he has slandered a virgin of Israel. She shall remain his wife; he shall not be permitted to divorce her as long as he lives. 20 If, however, this charge is true, that evidence of the young woman’s virginity was not found, 21then they shall bring the young woman out to the entrance of her father’s house and the men of her town shall stone her to death, because she committed a disgraceful act in Israel by prostituting herself in her father’s house. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. God made this life… and yet, you are to hate it and all that’s in it if you want to follow Jesus…

Luke 14:26 26Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. Slaves – obey your masters – live with it… fear god and live with it…

Col 3:22-24 22Slaves, obey your earthly masters* in everything, not only while being watched and in order to please them, but wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord.* 23Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters,* 24since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve* the Lord Christ. Slaves, if your master beats you with a metal rod… and you live – you’re his property… he’ll beat you if he damn well pleases!

Ex 21:20-21 20 When a slave-owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. 21But if the slave survives for a day or two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the owner’s property. Well, this is about the only thing I agree with out of all of this… (JOKING) Is there any chance this was written by a man? Oh wait, I think all the bible’s books were written by men – yes? I could be wrong there, but I don’t remember a book named “Mary”.

1Tim 2:11-12 11Let a woman* learn in silence with full submission. 12I permit no woman* to teach or to have authority over a man;* she is to keep silent.

For the following – how are they to know what girls have slept with a man? Put a finger up there and deflower her or what? How ridiculous is this passage?

Num 31:14-18 14Moses became angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who had come from service in the war. 15Moses said to them, Have you allowed all the women to live? 16These women here, on Balaam’s advice, made the Israelites act treacherously against the Lord in the affair of Peor, so that the plague came among the congregation of the Lord. 17Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known a man by sleeping with him. 18But all the young girls who have not known a man by sleeping with him, keep alive for yourselves.

If you think these things apply only to the people of the time and aren’t relevant to us today in 2008… think again.

You either follow the bible or you create your own reality… The bible SAYS to follow every word.

Why don’t you?

You realize some of it is so ridiculous that it couldn’t have been meant for present times. Yes?

Isaiah 40:8 8The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand for ever. Did a perfect and all-loving God inspire these brutal words? If you believe in the bible – you gotta answer in the affirmative. If not, you’re a hypocrite.

I find that most Christians are one of two things… hypocrites or disbelievers afraid to come out of the closet and question the things they KNOW are wrong about Christianity.

Which one are you?

Why is the Bible like this?

One of the purposes of this web site is to provide fodder to help you explore the question for yourself. Would anyone care to enlighten me about why such a ‘good God’ would say these nutty things?

ha!!!! thank you so much, i actually have been looking for this stuff for a while. i wanted the quote about “when you sack a village and kill most everyone and then take captives, and you take a virgin girl as your captive wife, you must shave her head and cut her fingernails and then give her a month to mourn her dead parents before you ‘go to her as her husband’.” (ie: rape the prisoner). Bible says. I want to know what all the weird, obviously irrelevant and violent quotes are.

Hi, I don’t intend to cause any anger to anyone who agrees with this article but I’ve put some thought into it so I’d like to share it with you.

It’s nice to hear that you have been reading the Bible but I guess you weren’t given the chance to actually understand it. I myself am not well-educated enough to understand everything the Bible says but I know that it should not be literally taken. It’s like a poem, you have to put deep thought into understanding it. Please, let me explain what one of the paragraphs actually mean.

The father and mother in this paragraph represents “Those of authority”, like policemen. It doesn’t really mean your parents.

The rebellious son represents a person who does not obey the law, a person who commits serious crimes like killing people. Like a terrorist.

As for the last part, people stoning him to death can mean they will put him in jail so his actions can no longer harm people.

Now, I will try to write the paragraph into one more understanding to the majority of people.

Terrorists, murderers, rapers, etc.If this earth has such people who will not obey those who represent justice and peace and put laws of which are just, who does not heed them when they discipline him, then those of authority (like police or those who are just) shall take hold of him and bring him out to court. They shall say to the judge, This person is a murderer/terrorist, etc. He will not obey us. He breaks the laws and lives his life badly. Then all the people in the area shall agree to put him in jail so can no longer do bad deeds and hopefully with time, the evilness in him will die (like stoned to death). The world will hear what he did and how he ended up, and they be afraid of doing what he did so they will not do such things.

If I have angered you, please forgive me because it was not my intention. I just want to tell you not to take the Bible literally. Like when Jesus told everyone to eat his flesh and drink his blood, everyone was probably confused and feared him because they didn’t understand him.

Hi Nanorwong,

Thanks for writing… I find you to be a nice person, genuine from the heart… but you have been told that the bible is not to be taken literally and so you put either your own interpretation on it or that or a leader, a priest, someone that interpreted it for you.

Unfortunately – the bible’s words are what we have. Supposedly god’s inspired word if you believe that part of the bible. I don’t think you can change it for whatever reason you like. I think the christians that make up their own beliefs about the bible to get away from the harsh reality of it are hypocritical at best.

I found it outlandish that you would attempt to tell me “Please, let me explain what one of the paragraphs actually mean.”

I guess somewhere along the way in your life you found a monopoly on the truth… It’s quite a sad state of things. I’ll wish you the best – and know that you’re drowning in your closed-minded view of a religion you believe with your heart and soul.

If you can understand a very basic idea… God as you believe in it, created all that is… the people here… me, you, joe and larry and moe and curly. God allowed for each of us to interpret everything differently according to our environment, our culture, our experiences personally… our mindset. Knowing that – there are 1,000 interpretations of various wording in the bible… and yours isn’t the truth for everyone… how could it be? As I joked, you don’t have a monopoly on the truth about something so subjective, nor should you speak as if you do… that’s foolish speech.

Think about that one paragraph. God made everything in it’s infinite variety… in every which way… and if he wanted the bible to be very clear, plain as day he would have written it like that – with no other interpretation of what it said – possible. Now – did he do that? Or, did he leave us all to come up with our OWN interpretation? It’s one or the other… it’s not – that he created the bible so Nanorwong could come up with the perfect interpretation…

I have something else to say, I may not be able to answer you with something convincing if you challenge me but I will try my best.
