A Plea to Microsoft – Pull Your Head Out!

Dad and Daughter at Pak Meng Beach, Trang, Thailand

I was at Pak Meng Beach in Trang, Thailand today for a day trip with my family. We had a blast… we ate on the beach and had an amazing view… we relaxed… the shade was cool. The trees were the same big fir trees Hawaii has at the beach – the kind that drop the prickly round seed pods that stick in your feet if you’re not careful. It reminded me of Hawaii and brought me back there in my mind for a short while.

When I snapped back into consciousness I grabbed my Nokia phone and started up Gmail. Though it’s a day out – I need to check email all the time or get behind on something. Turns out the guy that was coming from the UK to hunt snakes with me (herping) didn’t lose all of his stuff in his stolen bag like he thought he did. He was still coming, but a few days later. Cool. I was looking forward to helping him find some venomous snakes – and was deflated when he wrote his URGENT! message yesterday to let me know he wasn’t coming, and maybe returning to the UK.

I’m longwinding this.

After I checked my email I thought for the briefest moment what I REALLY wanted to be able to do with my latest technology.

I had a notebook computer sitting on my kitchen table at home – live connected to the ADSL line and uploading a large website for me. It was about a Gigabyte. I wanted to know – did it upload – and was everything good? Could I write the hosting service and tell them – get me a dedicated IP now?

I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t check my home computer. Why the hell not I wondered…

It’s because Microsoft and every other idiot company in the world – are focused on minutiae that isn’t affecting the average person. It affects only the idiots at MS.

Ask me what functional changes Microsoft has made to Windows since 1995 and I can’t tell you. In 16 years, what has changed from OS to OS? There has been – Window 98, NT, 2003, Windows XP Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate… Ultimate WHAT? What the hell can I do with it that I couldn’t do with XP? Not much, because I’m using XP now – and refuse to upgrade to their stupid Win 7 that did nothing but move the fucking menus around and make many things I usually do easily, harder to do than in XP.

Instead of making meaningless GUI (Graphics User Interface) changes – why don’t they put their heads together and figure out how to make Windows able to work with my Nokia phone, your iPhone piece of shit, and any other phone with an internet connection – so we can see what the hell is going on with our computer at home or at the office?

Why aren’t they doing that?

Why can’t I, at any time, go on my phone browser and pull up my home computer – turn it on – if necessary, and then pull any files I need from it – and download them to my phone.

Why?

Because Microsoft, and the entire Tech world – has all their heads – up their own, and each other’s ass. That’s why. I could suggest 50 changes to Microsoft’s operating system that would make it easier to use – and make people do substantial numbers of backflips over each other because they’re so overwhelmed with joy. I could do that – I know I could.

Note to MS: If you’re going to change the operating system and charge us for it – and make it a pain in the ass to keep our old operating system (Win XP Pro) – you should at least add some functionality to it so we can do something different with it.

I want to operate my home computer with my phone – is that so challenging?

If someone is already doing this – please, will someone let me know.

I’ll switch to Apple if they’re doing this. That’s saying a HELLUVA lot – since I hate their proprietary bullshit game they’re playing over there. And, I want to change my fucking battery when and where I WANT TO CHANGE IT. I want to link my iPhone WITH my computer any fucking time. I want to pay for and download an audio file – and use that sucker anywhichway I want to – without connecting to (downloading and installing first) your iscrewtunes software.

Ok, no, I wouldn’t switch to Apple shite. I take that back.

But it drives me BATTY to have Microsoft “updating” and “revising” their OS – and it amounts to Jack All.

I’ll change to Linux if they’re doing it. No joke….

Can some company already enable my phone to do this? Can any of the tablets – except the iPad – like Xoom? Samsung’s Galaxy Pad? Something has to be able to do this. I should be able to do everything I do sitting at home – from my phone or tablet device while at the beach, using the superfast ADSL connection my home computer has – connecting through my super-slow Thailand EDGE connection from my Nokia phone. The Thai government has been playing 3 Stooges for like 6 years, bending all the telecoms over one after another so they can make more money off 3G than they have a right to – so we’ve never seen 3G nationwide here!

Please tell me someone is doing this. Please?
